Pecan Pie Recipe Paula Deen
This Paula Deen pecan pie recipe is guaranteed to satisfy the entire family. It's sweet, filling and delicious.
Paula Deen's pecan pie recipe uses an unbaked pie shell, so it's perfect for a busy day when there's just no time to make pastry!
It's very quick and easy to put together, calling for crunchy pecan halves that are combined with sugar, eggs and butter to create a luscious filling. A couple of tablespoons of bourbon add the final kick, giving you a delicious sweet treat to enjoy with your festive meals - or whenever you are in the mood for a little indulgence!
What to serve with pecan pie?
Because pecan pie is so sweet, it doesn't necessarily need something sweet to accompany it. This makes simple whipped cream a great choice. That being said, it also tastes wonderful with a scoop of good vanilla ice cream.
Another option - ideal for a dinner party - is to pair it up with a sophisticated sauce!
Buttery bourbon sauce for pecan pie
1/2 stick unsalted butter
1 large egg
1/3 cup sugar
1/2 tablespoon very hot water
1/4 cup heavy cream
1/4 cup bourbon
- Just melt the butter in the top of a double boiler set over simmering water.
- Meanwhile, put the sugar into a small bowl and beat in the egg until thoroughly combined. Then, mix the sugar/egg mixture with the butter.
- Pour in the hot water and stir steadily until the sauce develops a coating consistency (6 to 7 minutes).
- Remove from the double boiler and allow the sauce to cool to room temperature, then stir in the cream and bourbon.
Should pecan pie be served warm or cold?
Whilst pecan pie can be served warm from the oven, we wouldn't recommend it because the filling will be too runny. For best results, allow the pie to come to room temperature, which will give the filling time to set properly.
Can pecan pie be frozen?
In the event that you have leftover pecan pie (a very UNlikely event in our house!), then you'll be pleased to know you can freeze it and save it for another day. This is also useful to know if you want to make a few pies ahead of time at Thanksgiving or Christmas.
To freeze pecan pie, let it cool down completely, then wrap it tightly with either foil or plastic wrap.
Pop it into a large zip-top bag or suitable container, then put it in the freezer. Although it can be stored frozen for longer, we recommend using it within 3 months for best flavor.
Take it out of the freezer the night before you're ready to use it and place it into the refrigerator to thaw. Bring it to room temperature before slicing.
